FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Peoria, IL) 01-27-06 - The new Caterpillar E-Series Backhoe Loaders-the 416E, 420E and 430E-deliver increased performance, enhanced operator comfort, superior controllability, expanded versatility and new, functional styling when compared to the D-Series models, which the new machines replace.

The 420E and 430E are the high performance machines in the new series and are characterized by industry leading backhoe performance. Both machines are offered in integrated toolcarrier configurations for applications that benefit from parallel-lift loader linkage and the versatility of quick work tool changes. The 416E is designed and built to provide proven Cat durability, reliability and quality while providing a very competitive purchase price.

The 420E has 89 net horsepower (66 kW) and a backhoe digging depth of 14 feet 4 inches (4.36 meters) when equipped with a standard stick. The 430E has 97 net horsepower (72 kW) and a backhoe digging depth of 15 feet 5 inches (4.70 meters) when equipped with a standard stick. An extendible stick pushes the 420E digging depth to 17 feet 11 inches (5.46 meters) and the 430E digging depth to 19 feet 6 inches (5.95 meters). The 74-net-horsepower (55-kW) 416E offers the same digging depths as the 420E. The 416E also is available with an optional turbocharged engine that boosts net horsepower to 89 (66 kW)

High performance hydraulics get stronger

The variable displacement piston pump and closed-center, load-sensing hydraulics provide quick implement response and speed as well as high forces at any engine speed. The new flow-sharing hydraulic valves ensure proportional hydraulic flow to all implements and improve multi-function performance.

The 420E features a 14 percent increase in backhoe stick breakout force and is about 10 percent more productive than the previous model. The 430E features increased lifting and breakout forces. Swing forces are increased, too. The result is aggressive trenching performance and improved backfilling capability. On the loader end, truck-loading performance is improved through pump torque limiter changes and improved balance of power distributed to the drive train and hydraulics.

New cab and redesigned operator station

The new cab with curved glass and contoured fenders gives the E-Series a distinct new look, improves serviceability and provides superior visibility. The low hood enhances sight lines to the loader, and the hood tilts forward for easy access.

The redesigned operator station maximizes operator comfort and productivity. Standard pilot operated joystick controls are easy to use, and they reduce operator fatigue and increase efficiency. Auxiliary backhoe hydraulic functions such as extendible stick or hammer operation are controlled with convenient thumb rollers. Roller switches eliminate the need for foot pedals and create more room in the cab.

Other new features in the E-Series include a narrowed front dash, foot operated tilt steering, and in-cab control pattern changer for the 420E and 430E. Additionally a new air conditioning system produces 20 percent more airflow. The intake for the system has been relocated for cleaner air, and access to filters is easier.

Enhanced drive train and travel performance

New Cat axles and a modified transmission increase top travel speeds 25 percent to 25 miles per hour (40 kilometers per hour). The all-new mainframe has a 4-inch longer wheelbase for improved balance and machine stability. The 430E also features a larger torque converter for higher rimpull and better tractive effort, which can aid truck loading and stockpile work.

Each model has stronger brakes and increased slope holding capabilities. The 420E and 430E brake systems have power boosters. Outboard planetary gears and brake wear check ports allow easier service.

New extendible stick, bucket thumbs

The new extendible stick has an external slider design for best-in-class performance, digging forces and versatility. The outer slider protects the inner slider from damage and debris. A new wear pad design increases life and simplifies service.

With the introduction of the E-Series backhoe loaders, Caterpillar is offering factory-installed thumbs-a first in the industry. The new thumbs are available in both hydraulic and stiff-link versions and are compatible with all bucket and coupler combinations. The thumbs expand backhoe versatility by enabling the operator to handle irregularly shaped objects more easily.

Also adding to versatility, the combined function auxiliary hydraulic lines handle all one-way and two-way hydraulic work tools on the backhoe. In addition to thumbs, such tools include hammers, compactors, augers and tilting couplers.

Enhanced onboard electronics

AccuGrade® BHL site reference system is a grade and depth check system that provides accuracy, greater productivity and lower operating costs. It also provides a platform for future technology. The new backhoe loaders also are available with Product Link, a management tool that allows customers to collect and track multiple types of information about their machines via wireless communication. Managers can monitor machine location and service meter hours as well as machine health and productivity.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Peoria, IL) 01-26-06 - With the introduction of the 301.6C and the 301.8C, Caterpillar has expanded the capabilities and enhanced many aspects of the two smallest excavators in the Cat® line. The C-Series models feature 22 percent more bucket digging force and greater than 10 percent more stick digging force than the previous models. Increased lift capacities add to versatility and flexibility.

The new models get more work done faster through an engine power increase of about 4 percent-to 18.1 horsepower (13.5 kW) and increased hydraulic flow and pressure. The engine meets US EPA Tier 2 and EU Stage II emissions standards. A new, variable displacement hydraulic pump eliminates stalling and enables the excavators to dig through the toughest conditions. Operating weight of the excavators is 3,792 pounds (1720 kg) when equipped with a cab and 3,548 pounds (1610 kg) with a canopy.

The C-Series Mini Excavator cab is large and spacious for an expansive viewing area and good air circulation. For ventilation the cab has a retractable front window that can be stowed easily in the roof space with a gas strut assisted linkage. A suspension seat, console-mounted implement controls and adjustable wrist supports help reduce operator fatigue. Pilot hydraulic implement controls are low effort. The two-speed travel system is controlled by a switch on the dozer lever, which makes speed changes easier while dozing. The machine monitoring system is mounted near the operator's line of sight to ensure that gauges and warning lights can be seen easily.

For lower owning and operating costs, the new machines feature high strength side panels, polyurethane paint finish and a large swing-out rear door for service access. The 500-hour oil and filter change interval helps keep operating costs down.

The front linkage is a fabricated box section, built for performance and long life. The independent swing boom enables the machine to work next to a wall or obstruction. The 200-degree bucket rotation ensures good material retention at height as well as flat trenching capability. A choice of stick lengths, Cat Work Tools and dozer float function make the 301.6C and 301.8C even more versatile.

For more information about the new C-Series mini excavators, customers should contact their Cat dealer or visit the Caterpillar web site at www.cat.com.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Harrisburg, PA) 8/1/05 - CCI, a Pennsylvania corporation based in Cogan Station, is located in the north-central section of the state. CCI specializes in supplemental quarry crushing, construction projects (site development and heavy highway), crushing rock excavation, recycling asphalt "RAP", concrete recycling and custom screening.

Cleveland Brothers is Metso Minerals' dealer in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and has been instrumental in CCI's success, through prompt service and technical assistance.

They recently teamed up to supply a Barmac VI300 VSI to help one particular customer convert their stockpiles of surplus limestone (3/8" and 1/4") into premium sand products. CCI's customer wanted to capitalize on the advantages to be gained from using crushed fines as a substitute for natural sand. Crushed fines have a coarser surface texture than natural sand, increasing the flexural strength of concrete and increasing the stability in asphalt products.

Portable Crushing System

A Metso Barmac portable crushing system was installed in the customer's operation to create 100 stph of minus 1/8" (3mm) high quality crushed fines from their vast multitude of 'unsaleable' 1/4" (6mm) x 1/8" (3mm) limestone stockpiles. The Portable Crushing System contains a Barmac VI300 Anvil VSI and a Nordberg ST356 feed/screening plant.

The Portable Crushing System is located next to the huge stockpiles. The system is powered by a generator system and fed with a front-end loader. The Nordberg ST356 single chassis feed /screening plant includes a grizzly barred charging hopper, a screen conveyor, a 16' (4.8m) x 5' (1.5m) double-deck screen, as well as three belt scaled conveyor belts; one for final product, one for bottom deck overs, and one for top deck overs. Importantly, there is no water dust suppression used in this crushing system. The stockpiles contain sufficient moisture to eliminate ambient dust for the most part, and supplemental water has not been necessary.

The raw feed exits the ST356 charging hopper via a gated variable belt feeder and is conveyed to the double deck screen. In order to enhance the screening efficiency and tonnage separation, the overs from the tops of both decks transfers the Barmac VI300 VSI feed onto a side discharge conveyor and into the crusher.

VI300

The Barmac VI300 Anvil VSI operates at 1,300 rpm's providing a tip speed that generates over 67% minus 1/8" (3mm) first pass product and is capable of 300stph. The crusher is configured with a quad-sectioned 37" (930mm) distributor, sixteen trademark cylindrical anvils, a 300 hp (220 kW), 1782 rpm electric motor, and a Barmac dust controller system.

Discharge product from the Barmac VI300 is center-conveyor returned to the ST356 charging hopper to close circuit the crushing system. The oversize crusher discharge product (approximately 30%) is screened as overs and returned to the VSI for further processing.

The Barmac VI300 Anvil VSI provides a standard multi configuration ability consisting of Metso's very own pivoting motor base, exclusive impact enclosed rotor, heavy-duty shoe table, and self defined angle-rounded anvils. This dual action impact rotor is the first to incorporate both types of impact crushing actions, sling and strike, within a single crusher body. The crusher also offers the most multiple safety standards found in today's VSI supply market.

Experience and innovation - the Barmac advantage

The skills and knowledge acquired from 25 years of manufacturing, applying and servicing the Barmac VSI allow the best solutions to be given to the customer to help maximise the potential of their operation. To ensure the best service to Barmac customers, Metso Minerals provides a comprehensive product support team of dedicated professionals, based at the factory and in the field.

Metso Minerals provides a complete VSI aftermarket support package for the B-Series rock-on-rock VSI and the VI-Series shoe and anvil VSI crusher. While other VSI suppliers insist on promoting an all-in-one VSI solution, Metso Minerals believes the crushing duty of a rock-on-rock VSI is quite different to that of a shoe and anvil VSI and is thereby better served by two separate machines. Only Metso Minerals' expertise will enable the selection and ongoing support of the best machine for each individual application.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(State College, PA) 1/1/05 - Caterpillar Inc. industry representative Zel Grinnell and work tool rep. Pat Cavanaugh, along with Cleveland Brothers sales rep. Brian Hoffman presented Penn State University with a 242 Skid Steer. Accepting the donation from Caterpillar was Kenton Dutrow, the Supervisor of Maintenance and Equipment, who oversees all of PSU's landscape, construction and snow removal responsibilities. On hand with Dutrow was Penn State University Public Affairs Coordinator, Paul Ruskin. Dutrow has been renting CAT skid steers over the winter months for the past couple of years to handle the demanding task of clearing snow from campus streets and walkways.

Caterpillar has been donating a skid steer every year for the past 2 years. This is the first time the Harrisburg district office has had the honor of donating the machine, and the recipient this year is a well deserved maintenance crew in Happy Valley. Dutrow does all of the machine purchasing based on budget and, more importantly, the opinion of his operators. He mentioned that even for the members of his crew that are die-hard fans of CAT competitor machines, CAT's new line of user-friendly skid steers has begun to sway their outlook.

Kenton pointed out a few factors that are beginning to perk his operators' interest. The first is the obsolescence of leg and foot fatigue. Particular CAT competitor machines are hand and foot operated, and tend to really wear down a worker who sometimes needs to plow snow for 15 or 16 hours as occasionally happens at the home of the Nittany Lions. Joystick controls, like that of the CAT Skid Steer, has kept Dutrow's crew less fatigued and more efficient. Efficiency is a major concern when the crew has to keep over 23 miles of sidewalks clear for students and visitors.

The second point Dutrow mentioned was visibility. When working at a University filled to the brim with students and visitors, safety is a major concern for the grounds crew. High visibility cabs offer a clear view for the operators, decreasing the risk of danger to both the students and the machine worker.

Another issue gaining momentum with Penn State students is the push towards becoming a more environmentally friendly University. In turn, Dutrow is responding by looking into low emissions vehicles for his fleet. Caterpillar is also looking in the same direction. The CAT skid steer meets all Tier II emissions requirements as set by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Kenton Dutrow was quick to mention the final and biggest factor in his exploration into Caterpillar Skid Steers. His relationship with Cleveland Brothers Equipment Company would not be what it is today had it not been for the professionalism of sales representative Brian Hoffman. "Brian is not pushy like some of the other guys that come in here," says Dutrow. He wants a salesman he can build a trusting relationship with. Hoffman has had a business rapport with Dutrow for the past four years. When dealing with one of the leading institutions in the nation, trust is the foundation of a business relationship.
