Compact Excavators

Compact excavators are composed of an articulated arm, a bucket, and a cab mounted on a pivot above an undercarriage with tracks. Compact excavators are commonly used in projects like digging, material handling, brush cutting, landscaping, demolition, heavy lifting, and pile driving. They usually have a standard backfill blade, which is used for general dozer work like grading, leveling, backfilling and trenching. It can be used to increase dump height and digging depth. Compact excavators generally consist of three assemblies: the house, undercarriage and workgroup. The house structure includes the cab, engine compartment and distribution components. It is attached to the undercarriage by a swing bearing and can rotate or slew upon the undercarriage limitlessly. The undercarriage itself is made up of rubber or steel tracks or wheels and other associated structures. It supports both the house structure and the workgroup. The workgroup contains the boom, a dipper or arm, and attachment. It is connected to the house of the excavator by a swing frame. Compact excavators feature independent boom swing, which is primarily used for offset digging around obstacles or foundations. Independent boom swing is a reason that compact excavators hold a major advantage over other excavation equipment. Many compact excavators are also zero-tail swing or offer a compact radius. This allows the cab structure to swing entirely within the footprint of the tracks, providing an advantage for excavation in tight spaces or against a barrier.
